Learn why <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-client-market-share-october-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in this blog post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple\u2019s <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/apple-mail-privacy-protection-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mail Privacy Protection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (MPP) hides device data so we aren\u2019t able to differentiate between iOS, iPadOS, or macOS. (In March 2022, <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-client-market-share-march-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple\u2019s share was 60.7%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.) This brings things back to <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-client-market-share-january-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how Apple&#8217;s share looked like in January 2022<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when it was also at 57.2%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a closer look at each Apple subcategory:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple Mail Privacy Protection: 50.2%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple iPhone (iOS Mail): 3.7%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple Mail (macOS Mail): 2.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple iPad (iPadOS Mail): 0.4%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Except for Apple iPad (iPadOS Mail), each Apple category has decreased over the past month. Apple Mail Privacy Protection\u2019s share dropped from 53.1% to 50.2%. Apple iPhone (iOS Mail) and Apple Mail (macOS Mail) followed suit, decreasing from 4.2% to 3.7% and 3% to 2.9%, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, non-Apple clients saw an increase. This change is similar to what happened with Apple Mail Privacy Protection when we looked at each Apple subcategory in relation to all email clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Something to highlight here: Desktop has now taken the third-place spot at 7.1%, which was previously occupied by mobile, now at 6.3%\u2014a shift that could be related to MPP.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most popular mobile opens<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most popular mobile email clients are still Apple iPhone (iOS Mail), Google Android, Apple iPad (iPadOS Mail).<\/span><\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/April-2022-Most-popular-mobile-opens.png\" alt=\"April 2022 Most popular mobile opens\" width=\"785\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/April-2022-Most-popular-mobile-opens.png 785w, https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/April-2022-Most-popular-mobile-opens-300x191.png 300w, https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/April-2022-Most-popular-mobile-opens-768x490.png 768w, https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/April-2022-Most-popular-mobile-opens-700x447.png 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple iPhone (iOS Mail): 58.1%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Android: 30.3%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple iPad (iPadOS Mail): 5.8%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple iPhone (iOS Mail) continues to take the top spot for mobile, but it has been slowly declining over the past few months. Its peak was in August 2021, where it had <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-client-market-share-august-2021\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">90.5% market share<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As of April 2022, it\u2019s at 58.1%. This spot was previously occupied by Apple Mail (macOS Mail). In April 2022, Outlook continued its growth from 57.1% to 58.1%. On the other hand, Apple Mail (macOS Mail) saw a decrease from 41.6% to 40.5%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, Outlook and Apple Mail (macOS Mail) account for much of desktop\u2019s overall share. When added together, they own 98.6% of desktop\u2019s share. It highlights global trends across all industries and verticals. Some email clients may be over- or under-represented, particularly with mobile and webmail. This is due to image blocking or image caching, most notably with Gmail.
