Today, things are changing: We are super excited to announce that <\/span><strong>media queries in the Outlook iOS and Android apps for <i>all account types<\/i> are now supported<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>! <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ctt.ec\/O0iH0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[Tweet this \u2192]<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"display: flex; justify-content: center;\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WmNtzuqXRB0?si=mmd3KZKV50ABxZgw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Account updates have already started rolling out and will be complete over the next few weeks. This <\/span><b><i>will not<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> require an app update to see media query support once rolled out to your account.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-18817 media-18817\" class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/msft-apps-before-after-1000x905.png\" alt=\"Email rendering in the Outlook Android app before and after media query support.\" \/><figcaption>Email rendering in the Outlook Android app before and after media query support.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>The History of Media Queries and the Outlook Apps<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Outlook iOS and Android app was actually born via an <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/12\/01\/microsoft-buys-email-app-acompli-for-200m-will-still-support-gmail-and-other-competitors\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">acquisition of the Acompli app<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2014. Acompli supported media queries and thus the Outlook apps did too\u2014at least under the initial acquisition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In late 2016, however, the email community started to recognize inconsistencies in media query support across different account types in the Outlook apps. Courtney Fantinato summarized inconsistencies in this <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.courtneyfantinato.com\/email-rendering-outlook-app\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the email community submitted dozens of bug reports via the <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/litmus.com\/microsoft-partnership\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Litmus-Microsoft Feedback loop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which helped to create a complete picture of when and where media query issues occurred. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that feedback, Microsoft was able to identify the root cause of the issue: some account types (such as outlook.com accounts) were now being processed through an overzealous security module that was removing the media queries, thus causing the discrepancies. The Outlook team has now fixed the issue, so that media queries are now again supported in Outlook\u2019s iOS and Android app, no matter which account type the reader uses. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We&#8217;re happy to announce that we\u2019ve restored media query support in the Outlook iOS and Android mobile clients.
