Build an email boilerplate<\/h3>\n<p>All of your modules will need to be put into a skeleton or boilerplate HTML. This gives you the ultimate flexibility in how you want to <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-design-trends-what-we-are-expecting-in-2021\/\">lay out your email<\/a>. Combine that with Jay Oram\u2019s <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/JayOram\/email-css-resets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repository of recent standard CSS reset styles<\/a> for email, and you\u2019ll have a decent boilerplate to begin with.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Build your email modules<\/h3>\n<p>Email modules can be created in various ways. As long as you are consistent with the modules, they\u2019ll work together when combined.<\/p>\n<p><b>Here\u2019s how to use two different methods: &lt;table&gt; based modules and &lt;tr&gt; based modules.<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><b>Using &lt;table&gt; based email modules<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>You can have each module wrapped in a table so that the tables stack as modules are added. Your modules will be neat and self-contained and layout styles from one table won\u2019t affect the other modules. The drawback? Stacking tables can sometimes cause <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/a-guide-to-rendering-differences-in-microsoft-outlook-clients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rendering issues in Outlook<\/a>, like thin white lines.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Using &lt;tr&gt; based modules<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Modules that are based on table rows need to be placed in a containing table. Then, the rows can be placed in the containing table stacking the rows on top of each other. With this approach, you&#8217;ll likely find less pesky white line issues in Outlook. But, a rendering issue in one module may result in a rendering issue in another module. Plus, it may require more code to nest tables inside the rows to resolve issues.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Test your email modules<\/h3>\n<p>Both module methods require you to do some <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/email-testing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">email testing<\/a> to make sure one component doesn\u2019t break the whole email.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27697 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/modular-template-litmus2021.gif\" alt=\"modular email template in litmus\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/>\n<p>Creating one large template with all email modules in<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/email-builder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Litmus Builder<\/a> allows you to build and test at the same time.This allows for QA testing the modules in a template to see how they influence each other. It also ensures spacing between modules is maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Once all the modules are added, they can be seamlessly copied and saved in <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/new-in-litmus-create-and-collaborate-on-shared-resources-in-design-library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Design Library<\/a> as a snippet or partial.<\/p>\n<h3><b>7. Start using email modules in your production process<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve created your email modules, incorporate them into your build process. Most code editors give you a method to add snippets to your code or boilerplate. Whether you&#8217;re in a new ESP after an <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/how-to-migrate-esps-easily\">ESP migration<\/a> or refining your current workflow, snippets make building your emails much faster.<\/p>\n<p>In the Code Editor view in Builder, you can use the snippet trigger words or the insert menu to add snippets directly into the code.
