It was really just a lot of activity to say, \u2018Well, we think that they opened. We fired a pixel.\u2019 That\u2019s really what an open rate is\u2014the firing of a pixel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re seeing some changes in the way open rates look: inflated in some cases, and in others, a drop\u2014which would tell you, your mail is probably going to the spam folder. The reason for that is Apple MPP (and all the other non-human interaction services that are firing these pixels) don\u2019t do that when mail is going to the spam folder. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to look at your open rate at the destination level, said Meyers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The key to making sense of open rates? Look at them over a long period of time; watch for trends and activity that stands out as abnormal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take data visualization to the next level by applying AMP\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to displaying data in email, should you be using images? While it\u2019s simple to add an image of a chart or graph in email, it has its disadvantages, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data cannot be viewed if image auto-load is turned off<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data in images is static and cannot be updated<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Image sizes can be large, which can add to the total email load time without optimization<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not compatible in <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/the-ultimate-guide-to-dark-mode-for-email-marketers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dark Mode<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A solution to this? <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/amp-for-email\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> email. Their response?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery email we send at Litmus has one. We put it on top in the newsletter and some transactional emails, but it\u2019s mostly in the <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/email-footer-best-practices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">email footer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s good to include if someone wants to see the email in browser versus inbox,\u201d said Slater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most importantly, Mistry added that it aids in <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/resources\/ultimate-guide-to-email-accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">accessibility<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cIf a subscriber\u2019s email client doesn\u2019t allow for screen readers, their web browser might.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respect the limitations of email design<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of our Live Email Optimization session attendees also questioned whether it\u2019s a best practice to include the same categories from your website\u00a0 in your email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slater explained that first and foremost, your email should have a goal. \u201dIf people click on your product categories more than your email, you may want to rethink what\u2019s in your email.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDon\u2019t try to make email do what the web can already do,\u201d advised Tiner. \u201cIf your website is going to have all those categories for you, just leave it to the web.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Let&#39;s make your email better, together!
