And this is a way, one of the strategies, that people are employing to recapture that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Huang:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I think what worked was the attention grabbing subject line (\u201cRe: Podcast &amp; Shrek,\u201d in this case), but at the same time it felt deceiving. And icky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 15px; border-left: 10px solid #0d5477;\"><strong>Read more: <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/misleading-subject-lines\/\">RE: Misleading Subject Lines<\/a> \u2192<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Baird<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> I love that this is about Shrek and I definitely understand why you chose this email, Kim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Huang:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What it does well here is leaning on pop culture references to grab people\u2019s attention. And I definitely think that\u2019s something that marketers, when appropriate, should use in their emails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Baird<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Definitely in terms of the written content, they have done very well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Huang:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conclusion: this cold email got my attention. Is it my favorite? No, but also cold emails in general aren\u2019t anyone\u2019s favorites, either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Baird<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Cold emails leave me fairly cold, overall. I understand it as a tactic. I question it a bit as tactic.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maileg<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Huang:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email number two, from <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mailegusa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maileg<\/a>. What are your initial thoughts? They&#8217;ve got here a lovely hero image that contains what looks like a child&#8217;s hand and foot, and it&#8217;s clear that they&#8217;re about to play with it or dig into it, in some sort of sense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To some degree, imagery with people in it can be more effective, because we look for ourselves out in the imagery we see in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*scrolls*<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, this is adorable. This has a new look.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/fast.wistia.com\/embed\/medias\/dps49zzhyi.jsonp\" async><\/script><br \/>\n<script src=\"\/\/fast.wistia.com\/assets\/external\/E-v1.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"wistia_responsive_padding\" style=\"padding:56.25% 0 0 0;position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"wistia_responsive_wrapper\" style=\"height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;top:0;width:100%;\">\n<div class=\"wistia_embed wistia_async_dps49zzhyi seo=false videoFoam=true\" style=\"height:100%;width:100%\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/a-guide-to-animated-gifs-in-email\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">animated GIF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gives brings this product to life in a lot of ways. I really like it. And it doesn&#8217;t look like it&#8217;s too many frames, either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 15px; border-left: 10px solid #0d5477;\"><strong>Read more: <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/animated-gifs-in-email-10-tips-for-keeping-files-sizes-small\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Animated GIFs in Email: 10 Tips for Keeping File Sizes Small<\/a> \u2192<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This might be a better choice for the hero image. Or it might be worth <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/ab-testing-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/B testing<\/a> to see if you have any change in <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/blog\/trends-in-email-engagement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">email engagement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And we&#8217;ve got live text too in the headline, which is good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quick note: the text underneath the headline is center aligned, at three to four lines. I think you can get away with two to three lines centered\u2014but it&#8217;s always worth noting that for <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.litmus.com\/resources\/ultimate-guide-to-email-accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accessibility<\/a> purposes, left aligning text creates a consistent visual anchor point for each start of a new line. I wonder if it would be worth the time to make an arrangement of images that allowed the images themselves <em>and<\/em> the caption text be a bit larger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again. These are adorable. Very clearly adorable. But they are pretty small.
